If you’ve ever looked into a kaleidoscope you’ll see that the world in front of you becomes all of these fractal colours and swirling pixels. When I was a kid my dad gave me a kaleidoscope and I liked to look at the world through it, it seemed better that way, more alive. So, the song is based on people or moments in time that give you that same feeling of aliveness, and the desire to hold onto this feeling before it slips away.
