Our new song Take Me Away is out! I first came up with the idea for this song right when we got back home from our main tour for Hyperion in late 2018. I find that I often have a lot of latent creative energy after tour because it can be hard to really find time to dedicate to being creative when you’re on the road so it’s all stored up. I’ll often come up with a lot of ideas on tour, but I’ll only be able to sketch ideas out in their most basic form. This isn’t a bad thing though, coz I think it’s good to rest parts of your creative mind from time to time. So we got back to our apartment and at the time we didn’t have a proper studio having packed it up after Hyperion was finished, so I just set-up a minimal setup on the bed in our guest bedroom and started working on ideas. This was one of the first ones I wrote, and while I felt like it was a good song I was going in a different direction at the time and so pretty much never worked on it again until the fall of 2021 when I was working on the second half of Utopia. I love Pixar films, and one of my favorites is Inside Out. It’s one of the best descriptions of the inner working of the mind I’ve ever seen, disguised as a kids film. There’s this recurring bit where these guys that work in the memory section keep sending up this song ‘triple mint gum’ from some ad, and those same guys kept sending ‘Take Me Away’ up to my conscious mind around this time and so I chose to listen to their advice and finish the song.
