A legacy of badass women facing down dinosaurs and “dinosaurs” for six movies over the course of 29 years. In his autobiography, Mark Twain wrote, "There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages." For this project, my mental kaleidoscope conjured a Vanity Fair cover of Julia Roberts, Robert Kennedy Jr., Al Gore, George Clooney from May 2006, which in turn had been inspired by “Ballet Society” by Irving Penn from 1948; a group portrait of Corrado Cagli, Vittorio Rieti, Tanaquil Le Clercq and George Balanchine. (SWIPE TO SEE THE HISTORIC INSPIRATION) The light on the cover set was a gridded medium @chimeralighting strip bank with two large boxes behind the camera as fill. The light on the backdrop was two baffled @elinchrom_ltd octobanks covered with 6x silks to make the soft light even softer.
