Two years ago, we began our quest to create a tight, curated and well-executed collection of small leather goods. The vision was to bring the MORJAS philosophy into this category and create pieces of craftsmanship that elevate the quality of your everyday life. Quality, craftsmanship and design. With curiosity as our compass, we turned to all corners of Spain and finally landed in Ubrique. A small town in the south of Spain with over 150 years of history creating small leather goods. Ubrique is a hidden gem nestled behind majestic valleys of olive trees that have been supplying the crème-de-la-crème since its inception. The heritage of Ubrique started with its women. They began the history of craftsmanship in the village by stitching tobacco pouches called petacas. Even today, people from Ubrique are called petaqueros. Traditionally, locals would take the leather goods home to finish them around the dining table after dinner. Whole families partook in helping each other to stitch the goods, even the youngest in the family, which created a unique and inherited understanding of the craft.
