‘Fishshoes’ Silkscreen printed textile, furniture textile and leather draped on foam and wood. Handsewn with help from the infinitely talented @frederickekellberg (The gates to hell are paved with hand-sewn draped fishshoes but what a bliss when they are done) The image for this sculpture existed for a Long time on my desk or in my thoughts or what have you! I had seen this historical piece of clothing; a paper hat and shoes for hat Ladies tea parties. I thought of the hat Ladies of Gl. Strand with a life in such easy luxury to be able to walk around in papemache clothes and avoid rain for hours. Then I thought about the fishermanswifes of Gl strand; who worked in a wet environment next to and for the hat Ladies, wearing newspaper hats and selling fish from yesterdays newspspapers. I thought of Copenhagens city center; fashion, cosumerism, products, newsflash, gossip and I thought of John Gallianos newspaper print and decided to draw and print my own silkscreen textile. Then at a morning talk with little crossaints showing ‘Walking debt’ around @mrchrispedersen told me that it turns out the hat ladies to end all hat ladies Elsa Schiaparelli and Coco Chanel went on a Europe tour to make a collection for Dior and they saw the fishermanswife’s newspaper hats at Gl strand and appropiated the hats for making a big iconic newspaper hat for Dior and later John Galliano appropiated that hat and that print and made his collection of newspaper print; What a perfect tale biting anecdote. Oh and the exhibition closes after this weekend so today and tomorrow are the last two days to go see it! 💋📰
