The other night I went to the screening of The Disappearance of Shere Hite which was a beautiful documentary about Shere Hite, The Hite Report, sexuality, body autonomy, how we define sex, and liberation of the female orgasm, and the horrors of women who dare to speak out against the patriarchy. When I was watching it, all I could think about was my experience, my hurt, my healing, and the way I love. All I could think about was how hard it is for us to speak about the things that hurt us and the ways in which we want to be loved and cared for. The way we abandon ourselves to satisfy someone else’s needs. How we are all learning to find patience and peace in our own bodies. How we are making space for ourselves and the small gestures of self-love. Anyway, here’s a poem from my book ‘Loving, Longing, And Other Liminal Spaces’ about self-abandonment and self-love. 🤎
