According to Brian Rabinovitz, PhD, a neuroscientist at William and Mary who specializes in the neuroscience of music, “Tonal patterns and autobiographical events are processed in overlapping regions of the medial prefrontal cortex.”This means that when our brains take in familiar sounds, like certain holiday songs, even distant memories can arise in response.
