last week, I had the pleasure of hosting Chris Fritton @itinerantprinter at our studio for a workshop. The premise was that we’d show how to use what may be seen as an unconventional material (lasercut wood) and the trouble shooting that goes into getting it print-ready, all atop Chris’s vibrant and unique Inkwipes. I’ve only printed on anything other than polymer and wood type a handful of times, and there was *definitly* some trouble shooting and things I overlooked that Chris helped me navigate. It was fun to use the press in not one but two ways that were pretty foreign to me, but more so to see the absolute DELIGHT on student’s faces as they saw the results of Chris’s process on their paper, and then in awe of what fun was revealed after we did the pass of black over the inkwipes. After 2+ years of no one person workshops, it meant a lot to me to welcome people back into our near-ready space, that Chris would be up for coming to Swell Press, and that a handful of people chose to spend their night with us. Excited to host more people in the space, to have been able to spend hours chatting about all things printing and failure and art with Chris, excited to have done my first halftone photo with a laser (see: Frankenweenie and Millie), and more. Thanks to everyone who came. And if you want to not miss a future workshop, sign up for emails on the site!
