If you have chronic acne, you may also have a damaged skin barrier. If you’ve used a lot of acne products and haven’t seen any improvement, one of the reasons may be a damaged skin barrier. This was what happened to me last year and I didn’t realize the importance of the skin barrier until way later. I thought I was doing everything correctly by using acne fighting ingredients like salicylic acid, lactic acid, etc but for some reason, my acne would keep coming back.
If your skin barrier is damaged, you have to say goodbye to harsh ingredients for a few weeks. So no exfoliating, no retinol, no AHAs or BHAS. This will give your skin time to heal. During this time, focus on hydrating and nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, peptides, squalane, and skincare products with probiotics. After a few weeks, you can slowly start to introduce active ingredients again. But remember not to overdo it as you can damage your skin barrier again.
Have you made this mistake before? Lmk in the comments! 😊
