The tradition of Easter windows at Tiffany is tied to the New York tradition of the annual Easter Parade, complete with delightful Easter bonnets and promenading, which terminates in front of the Tiffany New York flagship on Fifth Avenue. The Easter Windows serve as a perfect backdrop to this old New York tradition. Gene Moore loved using real live grass in the window displays (which required watering and trimming) and frequently reinvented ways to use blown eggs to construct his dynamic visuals. This important tradition would, in fact, lead to my first Tiffany windows when, at 24 years old, Moore would commission paintings from me for what would become his last Easter displays.
For “Vision & Virtuosity”, we collaborated with millinery genius Stephen Jones to reinvent this concept, to display a late 1960’s Schlumberger citrine and white diamond snowflake, resembling a broken egg, with the jewel as a gooey yolk.
The outcome has proven to be a popular installation in Gallery one, representing the wit and whimsy so associated with Tiffany creativity. #visionandvirtuosity #tiffanyandco
