To honor Native American Heritage Month, we asked our friend and Mental Health Youth Action Forum student @jazmine_wildcat (she/her) to share a few words on how she's celebrating. "Native American Heritage Month highlights our rich history and beautiful culture, but we should also use it to remember the journey of our people. We cannot celebrate the triumphs without recognizing the trials and by doing that, it helps people understand and recognize us as equals. Every day we fight internal struggles, and it’s our youth who have the biggest battle. The mental health of our youth is truly an issue that needs to be talked about more. By bringing it to the forefront, we can help erase the stigma and show our Indigenous youth that it’s okay to not be okay and that there’s help out there for them. As we celebrate our heritage, please also acknowledge our history and traumas. Recognize us as strong and resilient, and let others know we are survivors. As a people, we will rise above and protect our youth and help them heal so they know they don’t need to fight these struggles alone." ❤️ -- If you are in the United States and need suicide or mental health-related crisis support, or are worried about someone else, please call or text 988.
