In response to the devastating floods in the Northern and Northeastern regions of Bangladesh, Footsteps conducted its emergency flood response under its Disaster Resilience Programme to aid over 7500 people in Sunamganj District’s Sadar, Taherpur, Jagannathpur and Derai Upazilas and in Kurigram District’s Sadar and Ulipur Upazilas with emergency dry food and survival buckets, cooked meals and drinking water aid. As water levels begin to reside, our real work in disaster mitigation is ready to begin. As a part of our Phase 2 of emergency flood response, we are working towards constructing fishing boats for fishermen, rebuilding homes, and conducting medical programs in flood-affected communities across Sunamganj and Sylhet. With the generous help of 7 Streams (charity wing of ZXY International), we have begun Phase 2 of our emergency flood response with the construction of 10 fishing boats and rebuilding of 20 homes. However, more support is needed to aid the thousands whose livelihoods have been drastically affected, for recovery.
