Some of our communities are places we’ve joined voluntarily – maybe you found a new church when you moved, or joined a book club. Others we are placed into, like school districts or a new office at work. As we grow, as our world changes, the communities we’re a part of change too. This week, I asked if someone was new to NJ-03 and he said, “no, it’s new to me.” He’s lived in his home for years, and while his address didn’t change, the shape of the district did. So now he’s part of our new community – NJ-03. When I decided to run for Congress, I knew that not everyone would vote for me. But it’s my job to represent them too. And now, the districts have been redrawn, and it’s my job to get to know the people I’m new to. I’ve received many warm welcomes and am enjoying getting to know you too. I’m grateful for this community, whatever shape it takes.
