Had the chance to facilitate one of the Road To G20 events titled Digital Transformation : Development for All.
The discussion was focused on ensuring a fair and inclusive Digital Transformation in Trade for all sectors of the economy in particular: Small and Medium Enterprises or SMEs.
Here are some takeaways from the 3 honorable speakers spoke at the event:
Lili Yan Ing – South East Asia Region Lead Advisor for Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia/ERIA,
“Impacts of Digital Transformation can certainly improve productivity and trade, but at the same time raises inequality, such as less skilled workers replaced by machines. What’s needed is improvement in the quality of key digital enablers for the adoption of industrial robots, automation and AI. Preparedness including incentives for good technology adoption for developing countries”
Haroon Bhorat – Professor of Economics and Director Policy Research Unit of University of Capetown,
“Low and Low/Middle income countries should priorities pricing through encouraging enhanced competitiveness amongst large telecommunications and data providers”
Albert Park - Chief Economist of Asian Development Bank and Director General of its Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department,
“The great potential of digitalization to promote trade and inclusive development require improvements in infrastructure, institutions, regulations and skills”
