!!️Let me start off by saying that this is just my experience with dermatologists and I’ve been to many top ones in NYC. I respect that dermatologists are just doing their job and prescribing medication is part of their job. I just personally would have chosen a different route to healing my acne had I known what I know now.
When I was prescribed retinoids as a teen, they told me that I could stop using it when my teenage acne was over but I ended up still having to use it in my late 20s because every time I stopped, my acne came back worse. Eventually I decided to completely stop and really figure out the root cause of my acne because I did not want to go back to relying on retinoids.
I healed my acne by focusing on my gut health and repairing my skin barrier. For gut health, I took pre/probiotics. But you also have to have a healthy diet. For my skin barrier, I used probiotic skincare which helped to balance out the good bacteria on my skin. A healthy skin barrier does the job of most skincare products. It was a long journey to figure this out and to heal this way but it was completely worth it to me.
✨What has your experience been with dermatologists? I would love to hear if you’ve had a different experience. ✨
