PREM SAHIB FOR TRUSSARDI CASA ‘ECLIPSE’ , mirror. 🌑👀 @premsahib @trussardi Prem Sahib’s work embodies a poetic and provocative ‘destabilized minimalism’. It references the architecture of public and private spaces, structures that shape individual and communal identities, senses of belonging, alienation and confinement. Entitled ‘Eclipse’, the mirror Prem designed for the Trussardi Casa Exhibition and Special Capsule was inspired from the plastic device that covers the camera on the artist’s laptop. “One side of the object includes a ‘black mirror’, which is a reference to artworks I have made using Obsidian—a black volcanic glass. I first came across obsidian mirrors in the archaeological site of Pompeii. I was interested in the history of black mirrors as a device used for Scrying, a practice that involves staring into reflective (often dark) surfaces to receive divinations and messages. I wanted Eclipse to be a homeware object that functioned like a portal on the wall; a pill-like form which might suggest both ancient and contemporary ways to transcend reality,” Prem Sahib.
