Helaina Hovitz was in her first period science class at I.S.89 middle school on September 11, 2001, just three blocks from the World Trade Center when the towers were hit. She and her classmates survived, but their lives were forever changed. Twelve years old at the time, "fear would become the foundation, the jumping off point, the undercurrent of how I experienced life for years to come."
