Its that time of week again, #HumpDay is here and the weekend is in sight, join us for a bit of Wednesday wildlife wisdom. This is a Tapir. Three of the world's four tapir species can be found in South and Central America, with the Amazon Rainforest being home to the Lowland Tapir (Tapirus terrestris). This species is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN Red List due to threats from habitat destruction, hunting conflict and traffic collisions. ⠀ ⠀ Although they are mostly nocturnal, tapirs are no party animals and mostly hang out alone. This shy guy can be found in a range of habitats including moist forest and swamp to dry grassland. ⠀ ⠀ Fun fact: Without being rude, tapirs have an unmissable nose and as strong swimmers this prehensile nose acts as the perfect snorkel and leaf picker. 🤿⠀ ⠀ Further reading:⠀ 🔍IUCN Red list⠀ 🔍Mongabay⠀ 🔍World Land Trust
