Did you know that @retreatcurrencyexchange is one of a handful of artistic amenities located on the Arts Block? The Arts Block is a vibrant collection of cultural and commercial spaces operated by Arts + Public Life on historic Garfield Boulevard in Washington Park. Founded by our Executive Director, artist Theaster Gates, Arts + Public Life (APL) is an initiative of UChicago Arts at the University of Chicago (@uchicagoarts) launched in 2011 that provides residencies for Black and Brown artists and creative entrepreneurs, arts education for youth, and artist-led programming and exhibitions. This Friday, December 16, from 5 PM to 9 PM, join us as we partner with our neighbors on the block at the L1 Shops (@shopl1chicago) to host the L1 Night Market, just in time for the holidays. Support emerging creative entrepreneurs and artisans this season and connect with local retailers from the Greater Chicago Area while enjoying music, cocktails, and a happy hour menu courtesy of Chef Ariya Taylor. As we continue progress on the arts and creative entrepreneurship incubator at the former St. Laurence Elementary School, we are proud to support local makers as they grow their creative enterprises and advance their artistic practices.
