You all know I love a compelling story - as well as one where a woman repeatedly hears "no" and steps over it. Again and again and again. A woman who is able to listen to her gut and carry on—until she succeeds. Such is the case with Journalist Jessica Yellin who's episode just dropped on the SheSez podcast. After 17 years in news - 8 years of them as chief White House correspondent at CNN, Jessica was frustrated and left. She had an idea —to offer proper context and backstory while delivering the news - in a way that isn't shouting at people and giving them an anxiety attack - but rather truly informing them. She pitched it to numerous news big wigs and producers and they all literally laughed in the Harvard graduate's face. Undaunted, she carried on, launching News Not Noise - a news platform- all on social media - that eschews just focusing on the conflict at hand and offering politically motivated editorial. Instead Jessica offers context and backstory with each report - she zooms out for a broader look. What is happening behind the scenes here? What does all this mean? What is the relevance of this story? etc. With a social audience of 800K , today more people watch Jessica than when she was on CNN.
After swearing off broadcast news for several years, I’m listening again. To Jessica on News Not Noise.
