Groovy, baby! 🕺 What looks like a lava lamp from the 70s are nurse cells in a fruit fly transporting contents to nurse an undeveloped egg cell (oocyte). This video captures a process called nurse cell dumping where the nurse cells transfer all their contents into the oocyte. This video captures the transfer, showing significant shape changes on the part of the nurse cells (blue), which are powered by wavelike activity of the protein myosin (red). Researchers created the video using a confocal laser scanning microscope.
