This beautiful patient came to my office distressed by the sudden and extensive hair loss she had recently begun to experience. Often, sudden patchy hair loss such as this can indicate stress as an underlying trigger, and point to a diagnosis of either telogen effluvium or alopecia areata. In cases such as these, stress management (which is very different from eliminating stress) can be one of the most important parts of the treatment plan, along with at home and in office treatments.
