It’s back-to-school season for families across the world, and together with our partner @opensocietyfoundations, TYTW is working hard to place hundreds of Afghan girls back into schools – most for the first time in more than a year. In the photo above, Salima, Sabera, Razia, Amina, and Madina (left to right), whose stories we shared earlier this year, are ready for their first day of school. Earlier this year, Amina, 10, was being sold to a man 20 years older than her to pay off her family’s debts, when TYTW was notified of her situation. The girls join roughly 200 other girls supported by TYTW at the Tawheed School, a private academy in Herat city that is world-renowned in robotics. Many more girls will be joining classes in the following weeks. We plan to provide roughly 300 girls the opportunity to both attend school and learn robotics. TYTW’s partnership with the Tawheed School will bring more robust protective mechanisms and resources to girls as a full-service learning institution. “We had a few other girls who weren't registered show up. They were crying and begging to be admitted,” said Basir Mohamadi, TYTW’s Regional Director. We are subsequently trying to make space for those girls to attend. To date, the Taliban have denied public education access to secondary school girls. #Afghanistan #robotics #TooYoungToWed #letgirlslearn #endGBV #endchildmarriage
