TAKE ACTION: Yesterday we told you that according to our new report, the Bay states are not on track to meet their 2025 clean water commitments.
Reducing pollution remains the single most urgent priority to restore the Chesapeake Bay, and the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint has proven to be the best way yet to do so. Since it was established in 2010, states have put practices in place to achieve an estimated 42 percent of the nitrogen-pollution reductions and 64 percent of the phosphorus reductions required.
2025 is a deadline, not a finish line. To achieve clean water, the Bay states must not only meet their pollution-reduction commitments as quickly as possible but also sustain the reductions over the long term.
We cannot afford delay. Climate change and continued population growth in the watershed will only make the job harder the longer we wait. That’s why we’re asking the Chesapeake Executive Council, which leads and provides direction to Bay restoration efforts, to recommit to the Blueprint and work to ensure its long-term success. They meet next week—join us and send your own letter to the council today at the link in our bio
