The bomb-cyclone system continues to strengthen as it spins off the coast of California and Oregon, leaving a spectacular display on satellite imagery as it undergoes its rapid intensification. Satellite imagery also captures the sheer size of this storm system, with its comma shape spreading from the Hawai’ian islands all the way to California before curling back into its center just off the coast. The line of clouds between Hawai’i and California is the pineapple express that the bomb cyclone is pulling moisture from. Another way to think about it is that the line of clouds is the fuel and the center of the cyclone is the engine. Those green and yellow dots? That’s lightning detected by satellite imagery, and it’s set to roll ashore tonight. See more at the link in our bio.
