Vivienne Westwood transcended fashion, style, clothes and politics. She was more than that. She was an enigma in the fashion world, she hated ‘seasons’ and people overspending. She lived to be misunderstood and stood for everything antiestablishment but ultimately stood for herself. Her punk politics put her on the map. She was an icon. That’s why we all admired her so much. She said to me when I met her ‘I don’t want people to buy loads of my clothes, it’s wasteful.’ Words of someone so confident in their own beliefs. The first piece of designer I bought was Westwood, I saved hard and still have that piece. It was monumental to me because it was the first piece of designer clothing I actually fit into as an overweight teen. I’ll never forget it. She was and will always be one of the world’s greatest fashion designers. RIP.
