Footsteps’ Phase 2 of its Emergency Flood Response under the Disaster Resilience Programme is ongoing with a focus on regaining the livelihoods of the flood victims of Bangladesh’s Northeastern and Northern regions. With the flood having destroyed houses and having disrupted sources of income of the flood victims, it is crucial that Footsteps intervenes to improve the lives of those suffering. On July 3rd 2022, Footsteps in collaboration with ZXY International, initiated Phase 2 of the Emergency Flood Response by providing 10 boats and rebuilding 5 houses damaged by the destructive flood in Taherpur Upazila, Sunamganj District. This collaboration also enabled Footsteps to acquire 5 Dreamwater Portable Filters V.01 from Dreamwater Enterprises Limited, to increase accessibility of clean drinking water in Sunamganj’s flood-affected areas. The beneficiaries of these boats are now earning a steady flow of income through fishing activities, thereby helping them to regain their financial independence which they lost due to the flood. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of the rebuilt houses are no longer scared to live throughout the day without a shelter above their heads as they are able to reside in the comfort of their homes. The availability of the Dreamwater Portable Filters in Taherpur, has allowed the flood victims to drink clean water and not succumb to water-borne diseases like diarrhea and cholera, which they would have without the devices. Footsteps' intervention does not end here as there is still much more work to be done for Phase 2 of the Emergency Flood Response.
