Photo by @daisygilardini / Pine martens are found widely throughout North America. They’re members of the weasel family and are found in mature, coniferous forests, where food is abundant. They’re opportunistic predators and eat rodents (everything from small mice to larger rabbits), insects, reptiles, fish and berries.
In B.C.’s Great Bear Rainforest during the salmon run, they gorge themselves on leftovers from bear catches, and help spread vital nutrients into the forest soil.
