Today is #worldmentalhealthday In 2020 I set up a campaign called #keepitreal and since then I’ve spoken to countless women and men about their own body image and how unrealistic beauty standards have effect led the way they value themselves. We’ve come a long way since the days of red circles pointing out celebrities cellulite but we are still fighting against a level of beauty that just isn’t human. Young girls and boys are getting a distorted sense of self as they view themselves through a filtered lens. Think about the person you find most beautiful, is it the imperfections of their body you think of first? Or is it the way they look when they laugh? In my own personal journey to keeping it real (both with myself and others) I chose to stop using filters on my instagram. I still struggle as I work in an industry that is very focused on how I look, but I have changed the way I view myself. I appreciate my body for what it can do now rather than how it looks. What instruments I can play, what songs I can sing, how I can dance when I DJ. Perfection is everywhere apart from in us. We are not meant to be perfect, that’s what makes humans so diverse and ultimately beautiful ❤️ #worldmentalhealthday #keepitreal
