I saw a 20 dollar bill blowing in the wind yesterday, and while I was bummed I couldn’t stop to catch it, seeing it made me think of my personal proclivity for luck.
I read a study once on people who believed themselves to be lucky (and unlucky). It turns out the people who considered themselves more lucky on average simply pay more attention. In the study, participants were asked to total up the number of titles in a fake newspaper. But hidden throughout the articles were the words “stop here the study is over and collect 150 dollars.” It got me thinking... if paying attention to where you are right now makes your more lucky perhaps our real lives might actually be better than the grim stories we tell ourselves day to day.
Things will work out, the sun will shine again, and spring will always follow the winter you might be in.
My friend recently told me that a barren tree we found hiking looked scary, but if you got close enough, you can see the branches were covered in buds just waiting to bloom.
