I am disgusted, heartbroken, and beyond fucking angry.
I urge you to take this beyond acknowledgment of privilege and/or a single social story in midst of your kid’s socially distanced bday party. Please don't stand in solidarity through awareness, yet fail to stand through action. Ask yourself what actions can I take today to stop the injustice? How have I used my privilege, my voice, and my money, to help bring about change? And don’t tell me you want peace or that looting won’t solve anything. If a stolen tv from Target sparked more rage in you than the murder of George Floyd then you ARE the problem! And need I remind you that the majority of the destruction during protests have been caused by white men? But, if you consider yourself an ally then this is your responsibility. If you consider yourself anti-racist, yet this makes you uncomfortable or you don’t know what to do...dig deeper, swipe left, and google some shit. If your heart is as heavy as you say it is then look at your communities, social circles, families....all white? Dig deeper. You may have crafted a life where Black People are on the periphery, so while the magnitude of this has gripped your heart, you may find the names easier to forget once the hashtags stop trending. But, the families and communities of those lost will never forget. #blacklivesmatter #justiceforgeorgefloyd
