I wanted to repost one of my favorite video series as a starting point: “Dermatology conditions on Black vs. White Skin.” Skin is one of the most visceral ways to see changes in our health. But studies have shown that even in major textbooks, darker skin tones are not well represented. When doctors or patients don’t know what to look for, that can lead to worse outcomes for Black patients. It’s why something as simple as including images on darker skin tones in a textbook can be life-saving.
