Java, September 2015
A solfur miner working the Ijen volcano in East Java. These guys will work in the volcano for hours and carry upto 1,5X their bodyweight on one shoulder, through the toxic fumes with nothing but a cloth covering their mouth.
They get up at way before the sun to get a few hours in the cooler night temperatures.
solfur dust settling on the rim of the volcano. This stuff isn't just bad for your respatory system, but it'll irritate your eye's and skin.
We could rent gas masks to keep breathing comfortably while visiting the mining area. It's all a ut messed up, looking back at it, but at least this money goes back into the local community, at least what we where told. You really feel the gasses even with the mask, and it make your eyes run.
