This might seem like a controversial topic, but it really shouldn’t be. UV does pose different skin cancer risks for different skin colors. With that, how much of a skin cancer preventative benefit you’re going to get from sunscreen - that’s going to vary. Also, skin cancer isn’t the only reason to wear sunscreen. UV also contributes to things like hyperpigmentation and accelerated skin aging. Ultimately, blanket statements that “sunscreens are going to reduce risks of skin cancer for EVERYONE.” I think that’s problematic. It’s complex and it depends. New podcast! And yes, Bob Marley died of skin cancer. Something I see pointed out a lot... But he had acral melanoma, a type of skin cancer that UV exposure doesn’t seem to contribute to. I’ve seen commentary that “if he just wore sunscreen maybe he wouldn’t have gotten skin cancer.” Sunscreen would not have helped...
