I first met this beautiful human @tommymisa when we recognised our otherness at a kinda wanky fashion week soirée in Bondi many many seasons ago. We reconnected again at queerdo clubhouse @thebeardedtit where we bonded deeply in the way @porkybits has facilitated the chosen family energy the beautiful staff shares. A few years ago we began collaborating on Tommy’s vision of a love letter & tale of our sacred community spaces. So was birthed “They Took Me To a Queer Bar” Extremely grateful to have created the sound design / track but also been on board as “community older” consultant. (We reserve the “elder” honorific title for our Indigenous custodians) Tommy has gathered some genius creatives working on realising their glorious vision. “This creation is a play, a celebration and a community gathering to acknowledge those whose heel prints we dance in. The erasure of Queer venues locally and around the world leaves very few Queer spaces left to gather as community. Inspired by Sydney’s Queer lineage and a desire to change the sanitised narrative of Queer venues Tommy shares stories from the past and present and offers hope for a collective Queer future for our physical and digital selves.” Opening this week at the Old Fitz Theatre. Link in bio. “With the guidance and collaboration of iconic artists- director Emma Maye Gibson @bettygrumble Sound design and generational knowledge by jonny seymour and movement and choreography by Fetu Taku @fetu.taku.angels this show will use Queer performance modes of storytelling including drag, soundscapes, movement and costume to present the familiar intimacy and sacredness of the venues that we cannot describe without experiencing that tell a big part of our story. An ode to our second or perhaps first home.” @theytookmetoaqueerbar
