For your monthly @pantone pleasure, we present a #VeryPeri hoop skirt of vibrant peri-purple cotton twill...a Thomson's "Paris Prize," no less!
The W. S. and C. H. Thomson Skirt Factory, opened in 1857, was one of the largest manufacturers of #hoopskirts in the world, located in New York City. Though the hoop skirt (aka cage crinoline) craze only lasted for about a decade before petering out in the late 1860s, Thomson's dominated the market. Yards of steel and twill tape were fashioned into thousands of crinolines in their predominantly woman-run operations. By the time this particular model won its titular prize at the 1867 Exposition Universelle in Paris, the trend was starting to fade—you can tell by the shape, which shifts volume to the rear, that the "party in the back" bustled silhouette was soon to arrive.
