Lately I’ve been thinking about value. Not about its dictionary definition of “monetary or material worth” but about appreciation- about being “worthwhile.” For me, value isn’t about money. There have been many, many times over the course of my career when I was paid yet devalued, so much so that I didn’t even realize the depth of it until I felt the exact opposite. This shoot (and these pictures in particular) made me tear up with joy- not just because I feel beautiful (although that’s certainly part of it) but because my contribution on set felt welcomed and encouraged. I felt appreciated in my entire capacity as a person, not just as a model. And I realized that that is a gift too rarely given.
