A technique first discovered abroad was introduced to Japan in the 1970s by the second generation founder of this studio. Combining ‘compression molding’ where glass is poured into a mold, and ‘spin molding’ where glass is formed by the centrifugal force of turning the mold. The finished glass object is removed in one movement pulling it upwards from the single-piece mold. Even from one mold, each craftsman will gradually create individuality as a reflection of how each mold is turned. The introduction of mold blowing technology has supported efficient manufacturing production volumes and allowed widespread distribution of glass objects in Japan. This process reflects a major turning point, which connects a tradition of the past to support current production lines.
