A woman of a certain age is often described as elegant. Stylish. Even handsome. Do you not notice something? All those descriptions are masculine. It’s like after a certain age- we lose our license to be women. “Thirsty. Desperate. Hungry for attention. Pathetic”. These are comments only an older woman gets when she chooses to celebrate her body. It makes me wonder if the insults and disgust heaped at older women who acknowledge their sexuality is because an older woman claiming and displaying her body is seen as false advertising ? Since we no longer can breed- we should no longer be seductive? If so, we women accept that female bodies are in existence to only please men and carry their seed. Our pleasure and desires are irrelevant. Speaking for myself- the time of my life when I felt the least sexy was at my most fertile- when I was a mother to young children. Because my body wasn’t mine- it belonged to my children. Now, when I have reclaimed it, I’m supposed to hide it? Nah.
