full disclosure : i did not actually realize or remember today was the *official* 10 year anniversary of the first Swearin’ album until I got tagged in a post about it this morning. We didn’t have an actual “release day”; we just got shipped a couple boxes of LPs at the beginning of an absolutely brutal and formative summer tour on June 1, 2012. We took a photo with the first person to buy a copy (paging @goddamnboltman for a visual, if anyone has that photo it’s him). It was a moment of immense pride for me, in part because making that album was both epically storied AND extremely rushed (classic) and I was honestly kind of shocked we’d pulled it off, but also because I had never felt that particular kind of approval before. At that point I had no clue or expectation that anyone besides the 4 of us and our closest friends would ever hear that record; I was swept up in music and this sort of self-made familial love we had to even think about it at the time. The fact that there are people out there who heard it and felt something (anything) was and is inconceivably cool, and I’m forever so beyond-words thankful to you all for that.
