Last night @willsnotebook hosted a fabulous dinner with @stdupont ,and when I got the invite I had to pinch myself! Many of you know that I have a certain affinity for Jackie O., and famously Jackie was gifted a black lacquered lighter from S.T. Dupont, with an engraved “J,” by André Malraux, then France’s Minister of Cultural Affairs, in 1962. Because she loved the lighter so much, nearly ten years later she commissioned a matching pen, which led to the development of the Classique line. (Side note: my love for Jackie started with a magnet that had a picture of her in a pink silk shantung evening dress and tiara, which she wore for a state dinner celebrating André Malraux!)The pen was re-released this year, and I got to try it out, as well as touch and behold the prototype of the Ligne 1 lighter that was made at the same time as the one gifted to Jackie (they also had the newer version on display which is a bit bigger and heavier than the original.)
