This #WorldFoodDay, we’re taking some time to reflect on how far we have come since the COVID-19. Thanks to #HungerHeroes across the U.S. and beyond, the most recent food insecurity numbers show that the number of kids facing hunger in 2021 dropped dramatically in the United States.
A large part of this was the success of temporary assistance programs like the enhanced Child Tax Credit, expanded SNAP benefits, Pandemic EBT, and nutrition waivers that allowed schools and community organizations to adapt their programs and reach more families.
However, many of these programs that helped kids and families have already expired in 2022. At the same time, inflation and ongoing supply chain issues mean everything from food to school clothes to diapers are more expensive.
We know these programs work. But we need to continue the fight to advocate for strong policies, build public support for programs that work, invest in innovative solutions, and make sure kids are fed. 🤝
Our mission to end #ChildhoodHunger remains important today, on World Food Day, as every other day! #NoKidHungry
