Did you know that Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday” song (yes, the Black birthday anthem) helped make Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday a federal holiday? It took massive effort and 15 years after King’s assassination, but a three-year campaign from Wonder, the hit single and over 6 million petition signatures later, it finally became a holiday when President Ronald Reagan signed the bill into law in 1983. Now, on the third Monday in January every year, we honor Dr. King’s legacy, which lives on through our collective work toward justice. #ReclaimMLK
