Happy 2023! So we figured we kick off the year with an update on the hoarder situation we’ve been trying to manage. This past month has been brutal, as much as we try to plan, prioritize every rescue it’s rare when things fall into place. Emergencies come up every day, there’s really nobody else to help these kids so we do the best we can to scramble to provide a safety net. Trying to juggle hoarding, several cases of abandonment, former TNR locations where buildings are being demolished & cats left behind on top of our weekly trap/neuter/return duties across our region requires constant pleas for more hands on deck. There is no safe place for these kids to go, each situation has to be carefully assessed & because we’re dealing with so many more discarded friendly cats, we’re having to make some incredibly tough choices. When the guardian of these kids ended up hospitalized all our plans to went out the window. The situation as it was wasn’t ideal, but he was working with us to fix the cats & slowly allowing our team to rescue them based on their medical needs & our ability to secure a rehab a foster. Anyone out there doing TNR & street rescue knows, it’s like combat, in many cases triage is the best you can do because the number of animals that need help has increased exponentially over the past year. The rescue work is time consuming & the one thing we can’t do is drop the ball for even a minute on the spay/neuter, the TNR, or we’ll be drowning in even more animals out there on the street. Our amazing foster/adopt team @jennala & @blyth304 deserve an award for really digging in to ensure once we rescue them they have someplace to land on top@of juggling their “real” jobs. It’s not easy, but it’s not something anyone who considers themselves an animal advocate should be willing to ignore.
