Reposted from @slash Reposted from @thelegendsofmusic Janis Joplin performing “Move Over” Live on the Dick Cavett Show on the 25th of June, 1970 Remembering Janis Joplin on what would have been her for her 80th Birthday. Janis Joplin was one of the greatest rock singers of the ‘60s. She had one special ability that no other singer possessed in that era. What separated Janis from the pack was that not only was she a phenomenal singer, she knew how to make a song her own. As a vocalist, Janis possessed a unique vocal range, which was at times wailing, sometimes raspy, but mostly supercharged with lots of emotion. She originally rose to fame as part of the San Francisco psychedelic band Big Brother & the Holding Company before striking it on her own as a solo artist. While she’s wasn’t blessed with the best songwriting ability or the best sympathetic musicians, her performances from that era were some of the most exciting of all time. In a way, Janis helped redefine the role of women in rock with her assertive, sexually forthright persona and raunchy, electrifying on-stage presence. What do you think of Janis’s legacy in music? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear your thoughts! #Music #RockNRoll #JanisJoplin iiii]; )'
