📕 Book Review📕 swipe for blurb The Good Servant by @fernbritton ‘She always followed the Crown. She never followed her heart’ 1932 and a young Marion Crawford has dreams of helping under privileged children in her teaching career but then an offer comes which changes her direction in life where she becomes governess to two little princesses Elizabeth & Margaret. When Marion falls in love with George she has choices to make. I loved reading this. I had heard of ‘Crawfie’ who the governess was affectionately known by the princesses but didn’t really know anything about her and although some of the events in the story may be fictional, the people are real and I found this so interesting and captivating. I could imagine being in the royal homes as the descriptions were vivid. I loved the relationship that developed between her and the princesses and I think this was developed with so much warmth but professionalism too which a governess would have to adhere to. Fern always comes across so lovely on TV and this radiance shines through in her writing throughout. Marion’s relationship with George is a difficult one which made for sad reading at times and showed how men of that era were treated differently to women. A wonderful elegant story and one where it has piqued my interest to read more about the real Marion Crawford Thank you @harpercollinsuk for my gifted copy. It was a pleasure to read AD / PR QOTD: If you could pick a part of history to revisit, what would you pick? #bookstagram #bookstagrammer#bookrecommendations #booklover #booksofinstagram #booksofig#bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #bookcomunity #readingcommunity #readingcorner #bookreview #thegoodservant #fernbritton #zoebeesbooks
