Food, like art, can delight, subvert, challenge and nourish. It is both a medium for expression and a something of which we simply cannot get enough.
Artists and chefs share the challenge of laying themselves out for others to consume, turning a jumble of raw materials into a something meaningful and trying to leave a lasting impression from mere moments of expression.
Food is both cause for celebration and the everyday, both mundane and exquisite. But so much of its storytelling power comes from the fact that it’s ephemeral, often deeply personal and designed to make a statement. Not only does it tell a story and bring the audience in, but the audience becomes part of the piece itself — for what good is a meal if nobody is there to enjoy it? We like to think of our dinners as a place where food and art converge, where cuisine and culture meet. Like a thoughtful wine pairing or a perfectly blended color palette, the whole tends to become more than a simple sum of its parts.
