Otilia Portillo Padua (@migatoesverde ) Producers: Paula Arroio (@paula_arroio), Elena Fortes (@elenafortes ), Otilia Portillo Synopsis: Three Mexican women—all indigenous scientists and activists—partner with mushrooms to fight for their lands and cultures. The Queendom combines documentary with science fiction to explore the perspectives of both the humans and their most powerful allies: the fungi. The Sundance Institute Sandbox Fund is an open-call grant program with support given directly to independent filmmakers to cover development, production or finishing costs, with no strings attached, and is separate from our main productions at Sandbox Films. Experimental by design, the program allows us to take risks, to nurture bold ideas, to uncover new voices, and together with artists, to re-imagine science documentary.
