The first time I went to Lady Jane Beach in Sydney I was told it was a gay beach. “Why is it a gay beach?” I inquired The response: “Because you’re here, my dear” This gorgeous secluded and serene bay of South Head peninsula is a “clothing-frowned-upon beach” though officially it’s been clothing-optional since the Premier Neville Wran made it so in 1976. It’s definitely a queer sacred space. So when we approached by Kim from the Presets to remix a band called Lady Jane Beach we were immediately involved. Being a no car, motorbike family, the track “Motorcycle” was even more alluring. We did a field recoding of Paul’s bike at Lady Jane with a nanganator accompaniment for the (literal) laughs. The song has been reconfigured to be played in gay bath houses and Late Night Queer Dances and clandestine leather bars and your devices for horizontal dancing. .
