For Simranh Kakkar (@ratattooille_), a 22-year-old animator and tattoo artist, tattooing is an art form to be experimented with. They’ve used foliage, and woodblock prints, to create stencils for tattoos and were looking for a way to fuse their love for animation and tattooing. “I wanted to make an animated short film with one tattoo making each frame,” Kakkar said, “except when I did the math, I found that I would need to tattoo about 11,000 people for that” And so was born the Tiger Tattoo Project, encapsulated in a GIF only a few seconds long that documented 24 tattoos on 24 individuals, with companion recordings of folktales, featuring tigers that inspired the tattoos, narrated in their mother tongue.
